We are thrilled to have the opportunity to *CLINK, Chat & Catch Up!* with singer & songwriter Margo Rey!
Let's tell you a bit about this amazingly talented woman:
Margo Rey laid her professional foundation with over a decade of training under the exclusive tutelage of classical voice professor Dr. Luther Stripling. At 16, Rey fronted an all female rock band Debutante (The Debs,) and also sang in a 3 piece power pop band called the Ritual before beginning a career in jazz, & becoming the band leader for the Latin/Jazz R&B Sextet Miss Margo and the Lost Souls. Actor Edward James Olmos recommended her for a principal role in the bound for Broadway musical Selena Forever, which led to a number of theatre credits including Saturday Night Fever, Latin Heat, Like Jazz, Senor Discretion Himself, Zorro and CantaLunga. During this time period she began crafting and touring her own original music that she calls “Organica.”
In the midst of battling breast cancer, Margo hasn’t stopped pursuing her music. She's received much recognition as the National Ambassador for Brides Against Breast Cancer, an organzation that as both a breast cancer survivor & a new bride herself, she is fiercely dedicated to.
Brides Against Breast Cancer contributes to programs for cancer patients and their families. Their outreach and educational efforts during the "Nationwide Tour of Gowns" bridal shows around the country help ensure that people impacted by cancer have the resources and information they need in their battle with cancer.
In her latest album Habit, Margo put together a variety of organic sounds with every bit of emotion put into each song. The Indie Music Digest says, “Her musical/vocal style is cut from the cloth of Celine Dion, Bonnie Raitt and Shania Twain.” Listeners closest to it claim that Habit is its own brand of sonic luxury and Rey emerges as a force of nature — in heels no less.
We chat about her blushing groom, Ron White, her delightful set of French Bulldogs, Gertie & Pearl...
She shares her incredible path and how she followed her passion in life to create her own sound, and so much more. She tells us about Brides Against Breast Cancer & why it is important to her.
